Renaissance Award, William Annin Middle School, New Jersey. What do 4 wheels, hand pedals and a flywheel system all have in common? They are all parts of a “WOW” solution involving laps, detours, and the creative use of stored energy. First the driver pedaled the flywheel and then the stored energy was released when he activated an electro-magnetic clutch. This highly efficient use of energy provided all the power needed to complete the eight minute time trial.
