Renaissance Award: Winkleman School, Illinois. During the Golden Age of radio, families gathered with anticipation to listen to their favorite broadcasts. This team’s crisp, fast paced, and synchronized radio broadcast had the same effect on listeners. The audience listened intently as healthy eaters tried to stop overeating by characters such as Fat Man and Bird Brain. The radio broadcast was expressional – showing extensive research and preparation. It was enhanced by the participation of each and every team member in making sound effects. This team really captured the essence of 1940’s radio.

DaVinci Award, Houghton Elementary School, Michigan. Broadcasting from the human body, this team had a unique take on what a radio broadcast could be. A morning show in the brain, roving reporters giving updates on a germ infestation and a weather report on the fever, all tied together into an engrossing story about an injured skier fighting off infection. This team wove in a hysterical commercial, set “Downtown in the colon,†and even managed to tie the Improv headline into the story. It was a truly creative and risky way to think of a radio broadcast, and paid off in a humorous, amazing performance!
